MIAMI – Ahead of its first season in USL Championship Miami FC has boosted its back line, securing the services of German defender Janos Lobe on Tuesday.

Lobe will be making the move from fellow Eastern Conference side New York Red Bulls II where he played his first season of professional soccer in 2019.

Following a successful collegiate career at Fordham along with stints at New York Red Bulls Under 23 side in USL League Two put him on the radar of the Red Bulls. That saw him selected in the 2019 MLS Super Draft picked up in the first round by the side he spent his college years with.

Having been drafted and in only his first year Lobe found himself playing with the NYRB II side in USL Championship. That linked him up with another Fordham graduate in Head Coach John Wolyniec.

Typically played on the left wing Lobe made an impact offensively as well as working on defense. As a speedy youngster Lobe managed one goal and seven assists in his rookie season.

“We’re excited to have János join Miami FC. He has the ability to get into attacking positions and has a very good left foot. He will give us depth and tactical flexibility as well.”

Miami Head Coach Nelson Vargas

While at Fordham Lobe managed 26 goals in 79 appearances being a vital link for the Rams from defense to attack.

During the USL League Two seasons in 2017 and 2018 the German Defender played first for KW United and then for the Red Bulls U23 side, but was sparsely used in both teams playing six games and scoring four goals between the two sides.

That would seem to suggest that he wouldn’t be used much when coming to the Championship but he was a regular for the Red Bulls II side, managing 23 appearances which suggests he should prove useful in Florida.
